Smoker fuel ~ pine needles

ree

Bee smokers rejoice ~ it's time for a flamin' and smokin' good time ~

All nonsense aside, I have a {Ute load} pile of pine needles for members if your smoker fuel stores are running low.

Have boxed and bagged it up by the time you read this.

If you are keen to grab some for your smoker, text/call Chris on 0423013863.

I am at Compton Road during the week, and/or can bring some to the meetings.

Extraction Advice

Hi, I’m asking for advice - is this frame capped enough to extract? Not really sure if you’d say it was 90%.

yes I would crack the front third then the second third and finally the whole frame. The reason being is that you dont want excessive flow as the outflow tray isn't deep enough to carry a deluge of honey at one time and will overflow into the base of the box, wasting the honey from your point of view

Broken Flow Frame

Hi, I'm looking for someone who may have spare parts for a Flow Frame. I managed to drop one of my frames and now have a hole where both bees and beetles can now freely roam...

I haven't dismantled the frame fully yet but I understand I can just replace the section that's broken.

Thanks,

Martin.

Maybe contact Flow direct to see if they can help. Best I can see on their shop is a three-set for $349 which would be a bit much, but you never know they might be able to help with a spare part. Worth an ask.

Project assistance with flow and langstroth extraction

Hello Brisbane Amateur Beekeepers Society,

As mentioned in the last meeting, my name is James Lian and I’m a PhD student at the University of Queensland.

I’m part of the Flavour and Sensory Science group under Prof. Heather Smyth at the Centre for Nutrition and Food Science and my project is comparing the differences in honey from different extraction methods, mainly between the methods used for Langstroth frames and Flow® frames. Our partner is BeeInventive, the inventors of the Flow® hive.

We are currently looking for beekeepers who have access to sources of monofloral honeys and can start harvesting between August and September . Interested beekeepers can apply through this survey. Do note that the survey expires on 23 June 2024.

Sounds good James.

Can't wait to see what the results show.

Already registered my interest.

Cheers, Chris.
